Terminology consistency using a term base

Recently, an agency client got in contact with me requesting a review of a translation in SDL Trados.   Now this doesn’t seem anything too out of the ordinary, but on this particular day, I was reminded why I much prefer MemoQ for terminology consistency.

  1. The MemoQ term base is integrated into the software and is not an extra purchase.
  2. The term base can be easily updated while you translate with a simple keyboard shortcut.
  3. There are multiple ways to enter terms from the term base.  By starting to type the word, by pressing control and having a drop down list appear with the options, selecting it from the translation results menu, or with Hey MemoQ using the insert term feature.
  4. The term base can be used as part of the QA process.  This allows you to check for terminology consistency, as well as alert you if the term is missing from the translation.

Using and maintaining a term base when translating ensures a consistent usage of terminology.  By adding to it as new common terms appear, this will save you time by not having to research the same term multiple times.
